Flood Maps are Changing...What you Should Know
Timing is important, owners only have one chance to grandfather and lock in the existing zone for future rating. Last chance to qualify for grandfathering is to buy or renew a policy before the new Flood Insurance Risk Maps (FIRMs) becomes effective.
To reflect current flood risks, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is updating the nation's Flood Insurance Risk Maps (FIRMs) using the latest data-gathering and mapping technology. New (FIRMs) are being issued nationwide.
What does this mean for you? Property owners who do not have flood insurance and find that their building are being newly mapped into a (SFHA) high risk flood zone is encouraged to contact us to purchase a flood policy before the New FIRMS (maps) become effective. Not only is your risk higher than you thought (any potential flooding will not wait until the new maps become effective), but you will also be able to renew your policies at lower-cost rates during the first 12 months after the new maps become effective.
